Following the violence at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara, internet services on the campus have been suspended until further orders. The step was taken to prevent the situation from worsening due to inflammatory videos.

Punjab Women Commission Seeks FIR and Investigation Details

Taking serious note of the matter, the Punjab Women Commission has issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Kapurthala, seeking a copy of the FIR, details regarding the Special Investigation Team (SIT), and a report on the investigation conducted so far.

The Commission has also sought information about the existing security arrangements at the university’s girls’ hostel.

Chief Minister Takes Note of the Incident

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also taken note of the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible. Following his directions, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav visited the university to take stock of the situation.

LPU Closed for 10 Days, Mid-Term Exams Cancelled

Following the unrest, LPU has been closed for 10 days. The university has advised students who wish to return home to contact their parents. As a result, students are now leaving for their homes.

The university’s mid-term examinations have also been cancelled.
