The identity and motive of the Omani co-pilot accused of stabbing his captain on a flight bound for Israel remain unknown. Investigators were continuing their efforts on Thursday to gather more information about the incident.

The incident caused the aircraft to descend dangerously, forcing it to land in Saudi Arabia. The Flydubai flight was carrying 174 people and was traveling from the United Arab Emirates to Tel Aviv in Israel.

Passengers Describe What Happened Inside the Cockpit

Israeli passengers on board the flight described how the bloodied Indian captain managed to open the cockpit door and allow them to enter. They said they then struggled with the co-pilot and helped stabilize the aircraft during the steep descent.

According to the passengers, the descent was so sharp that the aircraft’s rudder was torn off.
