Indian Navy Commissions INS Nipun at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai
The Indian Navy today commissioned INS Nipun, the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar-class, at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, said that amid a period of strategic churn, Nipun will be a powerful addition to the Navy’s specialised underwater capabilities required for multi-domain deep-water operations at sea.
He added that Nipun will significantly enhance the Western Naval Command’s capabilities for complex underwater operations as a dedicated diving support and submarine rescue vessel.
Indigenously Designed and Constructed
Indigenously designed and constructed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, Nipun is a purpose-built platform designed to support a wide spectrum of diving and underwater operations.
The ship is equipped with modern diving systems and underwater intervention capabilities, enabling sustained support to divers operating in demanding conditions at sea.
The ship also incorporates modern systems for navigation, platform management and precise station-keeping, complemented by specialised facilities for diving, underwater intervention and medical support.
