Jalandhar Businessman Duped of ₹1.09 Crore, FIR Against Lovelys’ MD and Director

Jalandhar: A case of financial fraud amounting to ₹1.09 crore has surfaced in Jalandhar, where a local businessman was allegedly duped by the Managing Director and Director of Lovely Promoters & Builders Private Limited, a Mohali-based company. Following an investigation, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police registered an FIR at Division No. 6 police station against the accused father-son duo.

As per reports, the complaint was initially filed on January 7 this year. After a thorough inquiry, the police booked the company’s MD, Gurpreet Singh Grewal, and Director, Surjit Singh Grewal, both residents of Phase 3-B, Mohali, under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. However, no arrests have been made so far.

The complainant, Umesh Puri, a property investor, alleged that he was looking for investment opportunities in real estate and came in contact with Lovely Promoters & Builders. The accused assured him that their project would offer world-class infrastructure and high returns. Believing their promises, Puri agreed to purchase three showrooms and a residential plot in their project.

Following this agreement, Puri paid a total of ₹1.09 crore to the company. However, despite the payment, he neither received the promised showrooms nor the plot. After multiple failed attempts to get his money or property, he lodged a complaint with the police.

Based on the findings, the police have now registered an FIR against the accused and will soon issue notices for their appearance in the investigation. If they fail to comply, the police may proceed with their arrest. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
