PM Modi Calls for Enhancing Resilience Among BRICS Nations; Warns Against Weaponisation of Technology & Critical Minerals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said pandemics, climate disasters and supply chain disruptions have demonstrated that in today’s interconnected world, no crisis remains confined to a single region.

Addressing the open session of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Mr Modi said BRICS nations have therefore placed special emphasis on enhancing resilience among the grouping.

In the session on Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability, Mr Modi also emphasised timely identification of challenges, preparation for them, and taking immediate action.

He said that a consensus has been reached on a ‘BRICS Integrated Early Warning System’ for the prevention of and response to infectious diseases. He added that Early Warning Data Integration Guidelines have been formulated for disaster management.

Mr Modi cautioned that weaponisation of technology and critical minerals can become a hurdle for progress. He said BRICS nations have stressed inclusivity in the adoption of technology.

Prime Minister Modi further stated that an initiative has been proposed to establish the BRICS-MSME Cooperation Portal to connect small enterprises with knowledge, finance, and new markets.

The BRICS Urban Mobility Hub has been established to facilitate the sharing of best practices among cities. Mr Modi said they have set up a BRICS Digital Center of Excellence for smart grids and energy storage, which will help make clean energy systems more reliable, efficient, and accessible.

Prime Minister said that the benefits of solutions developed within BRICS should be made adaptable and accessible to meet the needs of the Global South.

Mr Modi further stated that the BRICS Logistic Supply Chain Cooperation Framework will help make supply chains more reliable and resilient. Under the umbrella of innovation, the BRICS Incubator Network will connect startups and incubators.

Prime Minister said India has proposed the BRICS Startup Innovation Fund to promote innovative and scalable solutions. He added that the BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture will create new opportunities for farmers. Through this initiative, AI, geospatial technology, and digital public infrastructure will be aligned with the actual needs of farmers.

Prime Minister noted that the trust of Global South nations in BRICS has grown because their voices are heard and their experiences are respected. He opined that the strength of BRICS lies in diversity and cooperation.

PM Modi Welcomes BRICS Partner Country Leaders

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi welcomed leaders of BRICS Partner Countries on the second and last day of the Summit. They included Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, Vietnam Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The leaders later posed for a family photo.

The ten partner countries of BRICS are Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

PM Modi to Hold Bilateral Meetings

After the conclusion of the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral meetings with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Philippines Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa and President of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye.

He will also hold meetings with Vice President of Nigeria Kashim Shettima and Vice President of Uganda Jessica Alupo.

The Summit is being held under India’s BRICS chairship, with the theme, Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.

Harsha Vardhan Sringla Hails BRICS India 2026

Meanwhile, Former Foreign Secretary of India, Harsha Vardhan Sringla has said that successful BRICS India 2026 and the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration mark a significant moment for India and the global order.

He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has demonstrated once again the strength of its diplomacy – confident in its own civilisational ethos, which is open to dialogue, partnership, and cooperation with the world.

He said India’s BRICS diplomacy has shown that leadership is not merely about influence but about bringing diverse nations together around shared priorities-development, peace, resilience, innovation and sustainable growth.
