Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay today launched the breakfast scheme for school students from Classes 6 to 8 in government schools across the State.

With the expansion of the Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, around 15.30 lakh more students studying in 15,454 government and aided schools will benefit from the programme.

The Chief Minister launched the expanded scheme at the Government Middle School in Gandhi Gramam, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

An additional fund of 217.63 crore rupees has been allocated in the current financial year to support the expansion, taking the total budget for the programme to 724 crore rupees.

The scheme will not be implemented in Chengalpet and Tiruppur districts due to the Model Code of Conduct for by-elections.
