Amritpal Singh Declared Chairman of ‘Akali Dal Waris Punjab De’

During the annual Maghi Mela in Sri Muktsar Sahib, a new political party, Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, was announced by the faction led by Amritpal Singh. Despite currently being detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA), Amritpal Singh was named the chairman of the newly-formed party. The announcement was made by Amritpal Singh’s father, Tarsem Singh, and Faridkot’s independent Member of Parliament, Sarbjit Singh. According to party leaders, three potential names were submitted to the Election Commission, and Akali Dal Waris Punjab De was officially approved. “This is a significant milestone in our political journey,” said Tarsem Singh. “Our party is committed to advocating for the rights and aspirations of the people of Punjab.” Amritpal Singh, known as the leader of ‘Waris Punjab De,’ has been a controversial figure. His detention under NSA has sparked widespread discussions and protests across Punjab. The launch of this political party is expected to introduce a new dimension to the state’s political landscape. The timing of the announcement, coinciding with Maghi Mela—a significant Sikh religious and cultural event—reflects the party’s attempt to connect with Punjab’s religious and cultural roots. Although the party’s specific political agenda is yet to be revealed, its future plans are likely to draw significant attention in the political sphere.
