Congress Announces 12 Candidates for Doraha Municipal Council Polls

Lakhvir Lakha says tickets allotted on basis of public feedback and merit; Congress will reclaim Doraha civic body
Doraha, May 12 (Amrish Anand): The Congress on Monday announced its first list of 12 candidates for the upcoming Doraha Municipal Council elections during a press conference held under the supervision of former Transport Minister S.Tej Parkash Singh Kotli and led by former MLA and District Congress Committee Khanna president Lakhvir Singh Lakha.The press conference was organised at the residence of Payal coordinator S.Bant Singh Doburji, where the party released its first list of candidates for 12 out of the 15 wards of the Doraha Municipal Council.Addressing the media, Lakha said the candidates were selected after consultations with party leaders and representatives from different sections of society. He stated that the party had given priority to merit, public acceptance and loyalty towards the organisation while finalising the nominees.The Congress candidates announced include Tamanna Malhotra from Ward No. 1, Bant Singh Doburji from Ward No. 2, Saroj Rani from Ward No. 5, Ranjit Kaur from Ward No. 7, Mandeep Singh Mangat from Ward No. 8, Kiranjot Kaur Mangat from Ward No. 9, Gurpreet Singh from Ward No. 10, Kulwant Singh from Ward No. 11, Chhinder Pal Kaur from Ward No. 12,Inderjit Singh from Ward No. 13, Ranveer Singh from Ward No. 14 and Gurmeet Kaur from Ward No.15.He added that candidates for the remaining wards would be announced shortly.Lakha claimed that the Congress had consistently worked for peace and public welfare in Punjab, while alleging deterioration in the law and order situation under the present government. He appealed to party workers to remain united and work collectively for the elections, expressing confidence that the Congress would once again hoist its flag in the Doraha Municipal Council.Senior Congress leaders including Dr J.L. Anand, Advocate Surinderpal Sood, Rajvir Singh Rubal, Yadwinder Yandali,Vinit Ashat former acting president Kulwant Singh, Mandeep Mangat, Rajinder Gahir, and Anish Bhanot, besides a large number of party workers, were present on the occasion.
