School Roof Collapse in Peshawar Kills 28, Including Children and a Teacher At least 28 people, including 20 students and a female teacher, were killed after the roof of a private school collapsed in Dir Colony, Peshawar, Pakistan, on Thursday, October 15. The death toll is feared to rise as rescue operations continue at the site. According to a report by Pakistani newspaper *Dawn*, Muhammad Asim, spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital, confirmed in a statement that 28 people had died in the incident. An emergency was declared at the hospital following the accident. Earlier, Asim had reported that 17 students had died, all of whom were aged 13 or below. He also said that 17 other injured students had been brought to the hospital. Rescue operations at the school are ongoing. ## School Building Collapses in Pakistan According to the report, incidents involving the collapse of roofs and buildings are common in Pakistan, primarily due to poor safety standards and the use of substandard construction materials. In early July, part of the outer wall of a government primary school near Umerkot collapsed, killing three girls aged between 3 and 13. In the same month, the roof of an under-construction private school building collapsed in Lahore's Baghbanpura area, killing one child and injuring at least five others. ## Previous School and Tuition Centre Accidents In June, the roof of a private tuition centre collapsed in Lahore's Kahna area, killing 14 children, according to the report. The incident occurred less than two months after the roof of a classroom at a private school in Dera Ghazi Khan collapsed, killing four children and injuring 20 others. An investigation into the Dera Ghazi Khan incident found that the classroom roof had collapsed during expansion work at the tuition centre.
