British Airways Flight Drops 28,000 Feet Within Minutes Over Ireland, Emergency Alert Triggered

New Delhi, October 5, 2026 (Vishav Varta): A British Airways flight, BA295, reportedly descended nearly 28,000 feet within a few minutes while flying over Ireland. During the incident, the aircraft activated the 7700 emergency code.
Following the emergency alert, the flight was diverted back towards London instead of continuing to Chicago. The reason behind the emergency signal has not yet been disclosed. According to flight-tracking data, the aircraft descended to an altitude of around 9,000 feet while flying over Ireland.
The 7700 code indicates a general emergency on board an aircraft to air traffic control. However, the code does not specify the nature of the problem.
Flight Had Departed From London Heathrow
British Airways flight BA295 reportedly departed from Terminal 5 of London Heathrow Airport at 11:50 am for Chicago O'Hare International Airport. The flight was scheduled to take around eight hours and 40 minutes.
About an hour after takeoff, the aircraft reached an altitude of 37,000 feet. Shortly afterwards, however, it began descending rapidly.
No Injuries Reported So Far
So far, there have been no reports of any passenger being injured or the aircraft suffering damage. It is also not yet clear at which airport the aircraft was ultimately decided to land.
