Shivraj Singh Chouhan Holds Bilateral Meetings with Agriculture Ministers of Malaysia, Timor-Leste and Myanmar

New Delhi: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held high-level bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Malaysia, Timor-Leste and Myanmar on the sidelines of the 9th ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry in New Delhi.
During his meeting with Malaysia’s Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamed Bin Sabu, Chouhan highlighted the importance of sharing knowledge, expertise and best practices. He also expressed interest in strengthening cooperation in joint agricultural research, technology and innovation.
Both ministers noted that bilateral issues related to germplasm exchange, trade and market access could be addressed through mutual cooperation. They emphasised the importance of strengthening the close and strong partnership between India and Malaysia in agriculture and related areas.
During his meeting with Timor-Leste’s Agriculture Minister Marcos Da Cruz, the minister expressed interest in developing strong institutional mechanisms between the two countries to address various agricultural challenges and ensure food security for the nation.
Chouhan reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to sharing its best practices to support Timor-Leste in advancing its agricultural research and innovation capabilities. This would include the exchange of scientists and experts as well as human resource development.
Meanwhile, Chouhan also held a meeting with Myanmar’s Agriculture Minister Min Naung. During the meeting, it was noted that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries is at an advanced stage of finalisation to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.
Both sides also discussed the trade potential between the two countries. They noted that a strong partnership in mutually identified areas could help enhance trade in agriculture-related goods, including pulses, cotton, dairy development and agriculture education.
