Sanitation Workers to Stage Statewide Protest Against Alleged Police Excess in Barnala

Doraha, July 22 (Amrish Anand):Responding to a call given by the Sanitation Workers Union Punjab, statewide protest demonstrations will be held on July 23 against the alleged  Baton charge by police on sanitation workers and the arrest of union leaders in Barnala. As part of the protest, effigies of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will be burnt, and memorandums addressed to the Chief Minister will be submitted through the SDM and the police administration.Doraha Sanitation Workers Union President Rocky Sahota strongly condemned the alleged lathi-charge on sanitation workers, who, according to the union, were peacefully protesting for their legitimate demands. He described the police action and the arrests of union leaders as highly condemnable and termed them a direct attack on democratic rights, stating that such actions would not be tolerated.Sahota further warned that if the Punjab Government fails to accept the genuine demands of sanitation workers immediately and continues what he described as a repressive approach, the union will intensify its agitation across the state. He added that the government would be solely responsible for any escalation of the protest movement.
