Hollywood Actor Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa Found Dead in Santa Fe Home

Renowned actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 64, were found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Wednesday afternoon. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery, noting that their dog was also found dead with them.

Sheriff Adan Mendoza said there were no immediate signs of foul play, but an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause and time of death. The couple’s bodies were reportedly in the residence for at least a day before they were discovered.

Gene Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner, was celebrated for his roles in films such as “The French Connection” (1971) and “Unforgiven” (1992). His illustrious career spanned more than six decades, during which he appeared in more than 100 films, including notable performances as Lex Luthor in the “Superman” series and “The Royal Tenenbaums” (2001). He retired from acting in 2004 to pursue his interests in writing and painting.

Hackman had been married to Betsy Arakawa, a classical pianist, since 1991. The couple lived in the Santa Fe area, living a relatively private life away from the public eye.

The entertainment industry mourns the passing of Gene Hackman, whose dynamic and powerful screen presence left an indelible mark on cinema. He is survived by three children from his first marriage.
