Punjab’s Daughter ‘Sukhi Bal’ Scripts History by Scaling Mount Ama Dablam
May 10 Doraha Amrish Anand Punjab’s daughters continue to make their mark across the globe through courage, determination and excellence. One such inspiring name is Sukhvir Kaur, popularly known as ‘Sukhi Bal’, a native of village Chehal in Patiala district, who has scripted history by scaling Mount Ama Dablam (6,812 metres/22,350 feet), considered among the world’s most difficult and technical mountain peaks. Currently residing in Sydney, Australia, Sukhi Bal has become the first Punjabi woman and the sixth Indian woman to conquer the peak.An accomplished athlete, theatre artist and actress associated with Punjabi cinema, Sukhi Bal achieved this feat on April 15, 2026, after successfully reaching the summit of Mount Ama Dablam located in the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal. The challenging expedition took nearly 21 days to complete, during which renowned guide Sange Sherpa and his team assisted her throughout the climb.Mount Ama Dablam is regarded as even more technical and dangerous than Mount Everest due to its steep icy slopes, rocky ridges, freezing temperatures and low oxygen levels. Climbing the peak requires immense physical endurance, mental strength and exceptional mountaineering skills. Sukhi Bal revealed that throughout the expedition, she kept herself spiritually strong by reciting Rehras Sahib ji during the ascent.Upon reaching the summit, she waved a white chunni and emotionally said, “This chunni represents my Punjab. I dedicated this climb to my Punjab, my Punjabi identity and women across the world. No matter where I live, my heart will always belong to Punjab. The white Dupatta fluttering amidst the snow symbolises peace for the entire world.”After completing her studies at Punjabi University, Patiala, Sukhi bal moved to Australia nearly two decades ago and has since been serving in the Australian prison department. A multi-talented personality since her student days, she has worked in several Punjabi films, television serials and theatre productions, earning recognition for her performances.Sukhi Bal’s achievement is not merely the story of conquering a mountain peak; it stands as a symbol of courage, faith and the indomitable spirit of Punjab’s daughters, inspiring women to dream beyond boundaries and scale new heights.
