Ludhiana has launched an online traffic surveillance system to monitor and reduce violations, taking a major step toward enhancing road safety. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP, Traffic) Gurpreet Kaur Purewal announced that key intersections across Ludhiana have been equipped with advanced surveillance cameras to detect traffic rule violations effectively.
The system, introduced on January 26, has already issued penalties to 39 vehicles in its first two days of operation. On the first day, 16 vehicles were fined for running red lights, while 23 fines were issued the following day. This initial phase focuses on red light violations, but its scope will soon expand to cover a wider range of traffic offenses.
“In the coming days, the system will address violations like driving without helmets, ignoring zebra crossings, and failing to wear seat belts,” said ADCP Purewal. Additionally, the police plan to deploy speed radar systems to monitor vehicle speeds and penalize overspeeding.
This initiative reflects Ludhiana's commitment to improving traffic management and public safety. Authorities hope the system will serve as a deterrent to habitual violators and promote better adherence to traffic rules across the city.
