Brampton City Hall Flags to Fly at Half-Mast for 7 Days in Memory of 1984 Sikh Genocide

Flags at the Brampton City Council office in Canada will remain at half-mast for one week in memory of the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide in India, which took place following the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The city council has been following this practice for several years.

According to the information received, council employees observed two minutes of silence to pay tribute to those who lost their lives. The flags, lowered to half-mast on November 1, will remain in that position until November 7.

Tributes Held in Several Canadian Cities

Memorial gatherings have also been held in several other Canadian cities to honour the victims of the 1984 Sikh genocide. These include Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford, Pickering, Calgary, Regina and Ottawa.

Major Sikh Gathering Planned at Ottawa's Parliament Hill on November 13

Preparations are underway for a major Sikh gathering near Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, on November 13. Gurdwara committees in Toronto, Brampton and surrounding areas will make special bus arrangements to facilitate the participation of the Sikh congregation.

Avtar Singh Poonia, one of the organisers, said the initiative aims to bring global attention to the horrific massacre that took place in Delhi and other cities across India. He added that the gathering will also convey a message of peace and unity, with the aim of ensuring that such a tragic incident never happens again.
