48th Annual Athletic Meet Organized at Guru Nanak National College

Doraha (Amrish Anand) – The 48th Annual Athletic Meet of Guru Nanak National College was held with great enthusiasm at the college’s Guru Nanak Stadium. The event was graced by the Director of Sports, Punjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. Rakesh Malik, as the Chief Guest, while Colonel Rupinder Singh Brar attended as the Special Guest.On this occasion, the General Secretary of the College Managing Committee, S. Pavittarpal Singh Pangli, Executive Members Shri Shiv Kumar Soni, S. Navneet Singh Mangat, S. Ravinder Singh Malhans, S. Joginder Singh Oberoi, and S. Bhupinder Singh Oberoi were also present.At the beginning of the ceremony, the College Principal, Dr. Sarvjit Kaur Brar, welcomed the Chief Guest, sports enthusiasts from the region, athletes, and spectators. This was followed by a march-past in which NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, physical education students, and students from various classes participated. The college athletes, who had won in various competitions throughout the academic year, performed the torch-lighting ceremony.At the start of the Athletic Meet, judges and athletes took an oath to uphold true sportsmanship and fairness in competitions. The Chief Guest, Special Guest, office bearers of the College Managing Committee, College Principal, and Dean of Sports collectively hoisted the flag and released balloons as a symbol of enthusiasm, peace, and purity. Dr. Nirlep Kaur, Head of the Department of Physical Education, presented the annual report.The event also featured a cultural program performed by college students. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Guest, Dr. Rakesh Malik, encouraged students to actively participate in sports and cultural activities and informed them about career opportunities in sports. Special Guest Colonel Rupinder Singh Brar advised students to stay away from drugs and emphasized maintaining a balance between sports and academics.As a token of appreciation, the college honored the Chief Guest and Special Guest with commemorative mementos. General Secretary S. Pavittarpal Singh Pangli expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests and attendees. The sports competitions were successfully organized under the leadership of event coordinators Dr. Nirlep Kaur and Dr. Karamjit Singh.In the 800m race (boys), Gursimran Singh secured first place, Ravi Prasad came second, and Rajveer Singh took third place. In the 800m race (girls), Karamjit Kaur, Rajveer Kaur, and Roopa secured first, second, and third positions, respectively.In the 200m race (girls), Riya, Manmeet Kaur, and Karamjit Kaur secured first, second, and third positions. In the 400m race (boys), Shivam Kumar Pandey stood first, Gursimran Singh second, and Shubhampal third.In the boys' long jump event, Daksh secured first place, Gursimran Singh second, and Shubhampal third. In the girls' long jump event, Krishma Patel secured first place, Karamjit Kaur second, and Roopa third.In the girls' shot put event, Simranjot Kaur secured first place, Navneet Kaur second, and Chahat third. In the boys' shot put event, Sharif Khan, Harmandeep Singh, and Mankaran Singh secured first, second, and third places, respectively.In the girls' 1 km walk event, Muskan Bhatia secured first place, Diya second, while Gurveer Kaur and Shubhjeet Kaur jointly secured third place. Additionally, competitions such as javelin throw, high jump, three-legged race, and tug-of-war were key attractions for the students.Among the boys, Gursimran Singh (B.A. Part I) was declared the Best Athlete, while Karamjit Kaur (B.A. Part II) was declared the Best Athlete among the girls. The event was skillfully anchored by Dr. Lovleen Bains, Prof. Jagrup Singh, and Dr. Gurpreet Singh.The ceremony was also attended by former College Principal and Managing Committee Advisor Dr. Narinder Singh Sidhu, Guru Nanak Senior Secondary School Principal Dr. D.P. Thakur, Saraswati Model Senior Secondary School Principal Shri D.S. Gusain, Doraha College of Education Principal Dr. Lovleen Kaur, Prof. Gagandeep Singh, S. Charanjit Singh, Advocate Abhay Bector, Prof. M.S.
