TruthTell Hackathon: Pioneering AI-Powered Fact-Checking for Ethical Journalism

The TruthTell Hackathon, a flagship event under the Create in India Challenge – Season 1, is set to revolutionize real-time fact-checking using AI-powered solutions. Backed by esteemed organizations like the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), and IndiaAI Mission, this hackathon is a significant step towards fostering innovation in media and technology.

The event is a key segment of the inaugural World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES), which aims to position India as a global hub for media and entertainment (M&E). Set to take place from May 1-4, 2025, at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre & Jio World Gardens, WAVES will focus on four critical pillars: Broadcasting & Infotainment, AVGC-XR, Digital Media & Innovation, and Films.

A New Era of Fact-Checking with AI
The TruthTell Hackathon is a cornerstone of WAVES' Broadcasting & Infotainment pillar, bringing together over 5,650 participants, including 186 international entries. The initiative invites AI developers, data scientists, and media professionals to build tools that detect misinformation during live broadcasts in real time.

The challenge involves:
✅ Building AI-driven NLP models for misinformation detection.
✅ Integrating external fact-checking APIs with real-time verification.
✅ Creating knowledge graphs to track misinformation patterns.
✅ Developing an interactive dashboard for broadcasters to flag fake content.

• Top 25 Finalists Announced: March 7, 2025
• Mentorship Phase: March 8-18, 2025
